#353 An Admission of Errors 2013-02-04

#353 An Admission of Errors 2013-02-04 Video Clips. Duration : 3.75 Mins.

If it weren't for the content, these clips would remain 'in the vault'. But here they are. This was the first time using my PortaBrace rain cover. It is not designed for the Canon XA10 camera, but it's better than a plastic bag. (Although ziplock bags are pretty good.) A hook-and-loop closure is meant to hold a nicely finished piece around the lens hood. It's too big and as a result, in the first couple of clips, you can see the edge of the cover in the lens. Another minor problem showed up in clip three. I couldn't find a 'zoom' lever (the XA10 has two!) but giving you the sound of three light engines accelerating hard is worth my shame. And you'll notice the occasional camera sounds. The with the rain cover mounted over the microphone, (it sticks through an opening in the cover) every time I made an adjustment, you get to hear it. Oh well, live and learn. At least I used a tripod (which I kicked at least once). First up is an unusual move in that a unit coal train has spliced in a set of empty container well-cars, undoubtedly to be setoff for later pickup by a container train. Second is a light engine move first coming in eastbound from Thornton Yard and then headed south to Roberts Bank. Finally, a manifest freight, westbound with boxcars in the mix. The video was shot at the river Road, Fort Langley crossing at mile 0.4 of CN's Rawlison Sub, just west of the Yale Sub intersection If you go to Google, select Maps and paste in 49 09 56.07N 122 33 22.27W you'll see the ...
